TANROADS
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is responsible for maintaining and developing Tanzania’s trunk and regional road networks. Additionally, the agency oversees axle load control operations through weighbridge scales.
TANROADS, Coast Region, on behalf of the Chief Executive, is seeking qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill several vacancies for two key projects:
- Upgrading of Utete – Nyamwage Road (33.7 km) to Bitumen Standard
Contract No: TRD/HQ/1036/2022/23 - Construction of Mramre Bridge (81m) and Approach Roads (3.0 km) to Bitumen Standard
To support these projects, TANROADS is hiring professionals on a fixed-term contract basis for the following roles:
Available Job Positions
1. Highway Engineer (1 Position)
Role Overview:
The Highway Engineer will oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with contract specifications, industry best practices, and required quality standards.
Qualifications:
- Must be a registered Professional Civil Engineer with a degree in Civil or Highway Engineering.
- A postgraduate qualification in Highway Engineering is an added advantage.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in road design and construction, including at least two projects of similar scope in the last seven years.
- At least 3 years of work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Strong proficiency in English (spoken and written).
2. Materials Engineer (1 Position)
Role Overview:
The Materials Engineer will lead materials investigations and ensure proper design and construction standards for pavement structures.
Qualifications:
- Must be a registered Professional Civil Engineer with a degree in Civil Engineering, Pavement Engineering, or Materials Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in pavement materials, specifically in road construction.
- Must have participated in at least two road projects of a similar scale.
- Strong proficiency in English (spoken and written).
3. Structure/Bridge Engineer (2 Positions)
Role Overview:
The Structure/Bridge Engineer will handle structural analysis, design, and evaluation of bridges and drainage structures along the project road.
Qualifications:
- Must be a registered Civil Engineer with a degree in Civil Engineering, Bridge Engineering, or Structural Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in bridge design and construction.
- Prior experience in road-related structural projects is required.
- Strong proficiency in English (spoken and written).
4. CAD Technician (1 Position)
Role Overview:
The CAD Technician will support the engineering team by preparing technical drawings and sketches for road and bridge designs.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen with a Diploma in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, Land Surveying, or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Must possess a valid CAD Certification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with engineers to create and modify design drawings.
- Collaborate with the Highway Engineer to refine road and bridge designs.
5. Office Secretary (1 Position)
Role Overview:
The Office Secretary will provide administrative support, manage correspondence, and ensure efficient office operations.

Qualifications:
- Must be a Tanzanian citizen with a Diploma in Secretarial Studies or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- At least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain office records and schedules.
- Handle correspondence, reports, and facilitate site meetings.
- Manage visitor inquiries and phone calls professionally.
Employment Terms
- All positions are contract-based for a one-year period.
