Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) Overview
The Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) was established as an Executive Agency under Government ACT No. 404 of December 1999 including the Executive Agencies Act No. 30 of 1997. The agency was working under the Ministry of Communications and Transport while now it works under the Ministry of Works and Transport.
TAA is responsible for the operation, management, maintenance and development of government owned airports in Tanzania mainland. Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) works committed in ensuring professional, efficient and cost effective airport services.
Achievements and Infrastructure Development
With over the past decades, Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) has been significantly improving airport services through enhancing security, efficiency and passenger comfort in Tanzania Airports.
Tanzania Airports Authority has been doing various developments and some of those developments are:
✅ Security Enhancements – Here the agency has Installed the advanced security equipment such as:
- X-ray machines
- Walk through and hand held metal detectors
- CCTV cameras and
- Explosives vapor tracers
These security measures have been implemented at major airports forexample Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), Mwanza, Mtwara, Arusha, Dodoma, Kigoma, Tabora, Mbeya, Iringa, Mafia, Lake Manyara, Lindi, Bukoba, Shinyanga, Musoma, Tanga, Songea, Nachingwea, Ngara, Sumbawanga, Moshi, Morogoro, and Kilwa Masoko Airports.
✅ Infrastructure Development – Here the afency has expanded various things such as runways, taxiways and aprons in different Airports such as at Arusha Airport which have led to the increased aircraft movements, passenger traffic and cargo capacity.
