About the Role: Whitespace Planner

Airtel Tanzania is seeking a Whitespace Planner to optimize data center space utilization, enhance operational efficiency, and support future growth. This role is ideal for a highly analytical, detail-oriented professional with a strong background in data center design, capacity management, and facility optimization.

Key Responsibilities

1️⃣ Space Planning & Optimization

• Design efficient layouts for data center infrastructure, including server racks, networking equipment, cooling systems, and power distribution units.
• Maximize capacity utilization while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

2️⃣ Capacity & Resource Management

• Monitor data center space, power, and cooling resources, ensuring optimal efficiency.
• Forecast future needs to prevent overutilization or underutilization of resources.

3️⃣ Equipment & Rack Layout Design

• Determine optimal placement of IT equipment to ensure proper airflow, cooling, and ease of maintenance.
• Create rack elevation diagrams and floor plans for efficient data center organization.

4️⃣ Compliance & Industry Standards

• Ensure adherence to industry regulations, best practices, and safety requirements.
• Maintain environmental compliance for efficient IT operations.

5️⃣ Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with data center architects, engineers, and operations teams to align space planning activities with business objectives.
• Support teams in integrating new technologies and solutions for improved efficiency.

6️⃣ Innovation & Scalability

• Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to enhance whitespace planning strategies.
• Develop future-proof solutions that allow for scalability and adaptability.

7️⃣ Site Assessments & Reporting

• Conduct on-site evaluations to identify opportunities for space optimization.
• Provide detailed reports and recommendations to senior management.

8️⃣ Additional Responsibilities

• Perform any other tasks assigned to support data center operations.

Qualifications & Experience

🎓 Educational Background:

✔ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering (Telecommunications, Electrical, or Electromechanical), or a related field.
✔ Master’s degree or MBA (preferred).
✔ Certification in data center design, capacity planning, or a related area is an added advantage.

💼 Work Experience:

✔ 8+ years of experience in managing mission-critical facilities.
✔ Strong background in data center whitespace planning, capacity management, and facility design.
✔ Deep understanding of telecommunication industry data center modeling.
✔ Experience in data center security (access control, surveillance systems).
✔ Proficiency in project management to execute whitespace planning projects efficiently.

🔧 Technical Skills:

✔ Knowledge of server racks, networking equipment, cooling systems, and power distribution units.
✔ Familiarity with data center design standards and best practices.
