Job Purpose:
NMB Bank is looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Trade Operations Officer to support the Trade Finance Operations Manager in executing business strategies and ensuring the smooth operation of trade finance products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the efficient and compliant operation of Trade Finance products, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Monitor key operational risk indicators and promptly escalate any potential risks.
- Ensure strict compliance with the company’s security policies when accessing systems.
- Conduct thorough screening for all eligible trade transactions before submission, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks and sanctions-related assessments.
- Verify the validity and approval of customer facility letters for Letters of Credit (LCs), Guarantees, and Trade Loans.
- Ensure all applications are correctly signed and verified in accordance with customer mandates.
- Adhere to established operations manuals and process guidelines when managing trade product processes.
- Process all trade finance applications, payments, and claims accurately and in a timely manner.
- Review and process inward and outward SWIFT messages related to trade finance on a daily basis.
- Regularly assess maturity reports on various trade finance products, such as LC Bills, Import LCs, Bank Guarantees, Trade Loans, and unpaid export bills, advising on settlement or closure of expired contracts.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of Trade Finance deal processes and procedural flows.
- Familiarity with international trade finance regulations, including UCP 600 (Letters of Credit), URDG (Demand Guarantees), and URC 522.
- Ability to analyze complex trade transactions involving multiple stakeholders.
- General knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to Trade Finance, including Sanctions Policy and Exchange Control Rulings.
- Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills to enhance client interactions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to assess trade finance risks.
- Knowledge of Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance requirements.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Taxation, or other business-related fields.
- Professional certification in Trade Finance (e.g., CITF, CPA, CPB) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in banking operations, preferably in Trade Finance.
