Role Purpose

The Superintendent 2 – UG Geotech is responsible for providing accurate and data-driven geotechnical recommendations to optimize underground ore extraction in the short to medium term. The role involves supervising geotechnical data collection, evaluating mining-related geotechnical issues, and implementing risk management systems to ensure safe mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Geotechnical Data Collection & Supervision

• Oversee the collection, validation, and storage of geotechnical data.
• Ensure data meets quality standards and provides adequate coverage.

2. Geotechnical Modeling & Analysis

• Analyze and interpret geotechnical data for effective mine planning.
• Develop and update 3D geotechnical models to reflect ground conditions.

3. Stope and Ore Development Evaluation

• Conduct geotechnical design and analysis for underground excavations.
• Use numerical modeling to determine the safest mining sequence.
• Provide recommendations for optimizing ore extraction methods.

4. Ground Support & Fall of Ground Risk Mitigation

• Assess and mitigate risks related to ground instability and underground structures.
• Design rock support systems based on geotechnical engineering principles.
• Monitor implementation to ensure compliance with safety standards.

5. Underground Excavation Monitoring

• Supervise geotechnical statutory monitoring and reporting.
• Conduct underground inspections to ensure compliance with geotechnical best practices.

6. External Audits & Geotechnical Review Panels

• Prepare and present data for external geotechnical reviews and audits.
• Implement corrective actions based on review panel recommendations.

7. Budget & Project Management

• Assist in budget planning for geotechnical operations.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

8. Staff Training & Development

• Develop training plans for geotechnical personnel.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship.

9. Safety & Compliance

• Enforce strict safety measures within the geotechnical team.
• Ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

• 5–8 years of experience in underground geotechnical engineering.
• Expertise in geotechnical data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
• Strong knowledge of hydrogeology and ground stability mitigation.
