The mine is strategically located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields of Northwestern Tanzania, approximately 120 km from Mwanza City and 20 km southeast of Lake Victoria. Its main office and operational site are in Geita town, just 5 km west of the rapidly growing urban center. Additionally, GGML has a supporting office in Dar es Salaam.

Position: Specialist – UG HV Electrical

Role Purpose

As a Specialist – UG HV Electrical, you will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage (HV) electrical infrastructure and reticulation systems in underground operations. You will ensure that all work complies with safety and quality standards while mentoring and training HV electrical technicians to enhance their skills and competencies.


Qualifications

  • Recognized Electrical Trade Test Certificate
  • High Voltage Training Certificate
  • Valid driver’s license

Experience Requirements

  • 8-10 years of hands-on experience in heavy underground mining equipment maintenance
  • Proven expertise in maintenance strategies for underground mining equipment
  • Extensive experience in training and coaching a national workforce

Additional Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong background in managing HV electrical infrastructure in underground mining
  • Expertise in 11kV transformers, switchgear, and ring main units (RMU)
  • Proficiency in medium-voltage (MV) cable splicing and terminations
  • Experience with high/low voltage circuit breakers and earth leakage protection
  • Knowledge of 1,000V equipment and gulley box operations
  • Experience working with Jumbo drill units

Key Responsibilities

1. Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)

  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE regulations with zero tolerance for safety breaches.
  • Identify and manage workplace hazards associated with HV electrical systems.
  • Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring best practices are followed in all field activities.

2. Audit, Governance, and Compliance

  • Participate in internal and external audits related to electrical maintenance.
  • Provide expert advice to maintenance supervisors and trades personnel on HV electrical systems.

3. Asset Management

  • Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with asset management plans.
  • Maintain and update HV maintenance documentation, including drawings and manuals.
  • Monitor stock levels of critical spare parts and supplies for HV systems.
  • Assess and report equipment performance, ensuring continuous improvement.

4. Strategic Planning

  • Assist in the Life of Mine (LoM) planning process, focusing on HV infrastructure expansion.
  • Support underground mining operations by overseeing HV reticulation and construction projects.

5. HV Infrastructure Capital & Projects

  • Assist in planning, managing, and executing HV infrastructure projects in underground mining.
  • Work closely with the GGM Capital Projects Team to manage capital investments in HV systems.

6. Plans, Procedures, and Standards

  • Develop and maintain HV infrastructure plans aligned with the overall underground mining strategy.
  • Ensure work schedules are adhered to while addressing emerging maintenance needs efficiently.

7. Technical Training & Workforce Development

  • Create training matrices for different electrical infrastructure roles.
  • Identify training gaps and provide on-the-job coaching to electrical technicians.
  • Maintain a training register to track employee skill development and competency levels.

8. Meetings, Communication, and Reviews

  • Attend Mining and Maintenance Planning meetings and provide operational updates.
  • Communicate HV electrical challenges and solutions to management.
  • Participate in risk assessments, cost analysis, and change management reviews.

9. Performance Reporting

  • Track preventive maintenance activities to reduce work backlog.
  • Ensure all maintenance jobs are properly documented with work orders.

10. Risk & Quality Management

  • Identify HV electrical risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with engineering designs and industry standards.
  • Maintain detailed repair reports, including photographic documentation.
