Job Overview

NMB Bank is seeking two highly skilled professionals to join our Financial Crime Controls team. The selected candidates will play a crucial role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial crime risks across customer lifecycles and business processes. This role requires proactive risk management and close collaboration with key stakeholders to ensure compliance with financial crime regulations and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate alerts related to money laundering (ML), terrorism financing (TF), proliferation financing (PF), and sanction risks, escalating any suspicious activities.
  • Collect and document evidence on questionable transactions.
  • Perform statistical analysis to assess the effectiveness of alert generation and clearance.
  • Ensure optimal use and maintenance of transaction monitoring systems.
  • Support the implementation of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), and Counter-Proliferation Financing (CPF) frameworks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide expert AML/CFT/CPF and sanctions compliance advice to business units, addressing operational queries.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with stakeholders, escalating critical issues as needed.
  • Stay up to date with emerging AML/CFT/CPF and sanction trends and their impact on banking operations.
  • Process and resolve assigned cases promptly while adhering to set turnaround times (TATs) and maintaining quality assurance standards.
  • Prepare detailed management information (MI) reports for internal and regulatory purposes.
  • Monitor suspicious transaction patterns and recommend necessary updates to monitoring system rules, parameters, and thresholds.
  • Implement transaction monitoring techniques to detect potential risks related to money laundering, terrorism financing, sanctions violations, and fraud.
  • Understand the technical functionalities of systems used for Customer Due Diligence (CDD), Client Risk Assessments, Name and Transaction Screening, and Case Management.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including branch networks, governance and compliance specialists, operations, and forensic teams.
  • Initiate post-investigation follow-ups and implement heightened monitoring measures where necessary.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of financial crime risk management principles.
  • In-depth knowledge of banking laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Expertise in AML transaction monitoring, investigative processes, and regulatory reporting.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets, conduct risk assessments, and draw actionable insights.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to assess financial crime risks effectively.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Banking, Business Economics, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in financial crime compliance (e.g., CAMS, CFE) will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in transaction monitoring, risk management, governance, compliance, or financial crime compliance.
  • Experience in designing and implementing compliance programs, policies, and procedures in line with local and international regulatory standards.
