SHERQ Officer Opportunity – Kilombero Sugar (March 2025)

Overview
Kilombero Sugar Company Limited is looking for a dedicated SHERQ Officer to join our team on a two-year fixed-term contract. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for safety, quality, environment, risk management, and food safety. You will play a key role in ensuring our site complies with industry standards and continuously improves its safety processes through coaching, guidance, and effective communication with all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Coordinate and facilitate SHERQ and Food Safety risk assessments, working closely with operational teams to develop effective mitigation strategies.
• Coaching & Continuous Improvement: Guide management in assessing and enhancing SHERQ and Food Safety performance, ensuring ongoing improvements.
• Investigations & Audits: Lead investigations into SHERQ and Food Safety issues, verify corrective actions, and manage the closure of audit findings.
• Awareness & Training: Increase SHERQ awareness using diverse media (e.g., toolbox talks, noticeboards, digital channels) and enhance the safety knowledge of contractors and seasonal staff through tailored induction training.
• Process Management: Oversee SHERQ induction processes, plan and conduct internal inspections and audits, and maintain compliance with both legislative and internal IIRMS requirements.
• Reporting & Emergency Preparedness: Compile management reports, test emergency response protocols, track inspections using CMMS (e.g., MAXIMO), and ensure timely resolution of issues.
• Community Engagement: Promote safety within local communities (e.g., schools, villages) by developing and delivering informative materials and presentations.
• Policy Adherence: Uphold company policies and guidelines, including those related to SHERQ, Competition Law, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption.

Qualifications & Experience

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Quality Management, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Certifications: SAMTRAC or NEBOSH certification is required; additional qualifications like ISO 9000/22000 Lead Auditor are advantageous.
• Experience: 2-3 years in a health and safety role within an operational setting (factory or agricultural environment).
• Additional Skills: First Aid and Fire Prevention training is a plus. Must be knowledgeable about relevant SHERQ legislation, possess strong report writing skills, and be proficient in MS Office.

Contract Details
This is a full-time position offered on a two-year fixed-term contract.
