Aqua-Farms Organization (AFO) is a registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) under the NGO Act of 2002 in Tanzania, with registration number ooNGO/0009297. Established in 2016 and officially registered on July 6, 2017, AFO is dedicated to promoting financial inclusion, raising awareness of aquatic conservation, and advocating for community-driven economic growth.
About the Project
This internship is part of the Africa Fair Seaweed Finance Facility (AFSFF), an initiative aimed at transforming the seaweed farming sector in Tanzania. The project focuses on:
- Increasing seaweed productivity
- Enhancing climate resilience
- Empowering women and youth in coastal communities
As an intern, you will work closely with seaweed farmers, facilitate training programs, and assist in data collection and reporting to support the project’s success.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Training
- Conduct training sessions on Best Management Practices (BMPs) for seaweed farmers.
- Promote sustainable farming techniques and ensure their adoption within communities.
Fieldwork & Technical Support
- Conduct regular visits to seaweed farms, assess farming conditions, and provide technical guidance.
- Assist in implementing improved cultivation techniques to enhance productivity.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Monitor and document project activities, including tracking farm productivity.
- Compile training session reports and contribute to project documentation.
Capacity Building
- Organize learning sessions for community members, focusing on enhancing farming techniques and business knowledge.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with local leaders, fisheries officers, and other stakeholders to enhance community participation and ensure project sustainability.
Documentation & Communication
- Prepare field reports and maintain accurate records of all activities.
- Use Microsoft Word to document and submit reports.
Additional Responsibilities
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Experience & Qualifications
✅ Education Background:
- A degree or diploma in Aquaculture, Marine Sciences, Fisheries, or a related field.
✅ Required Skills & Capabilities:
- Experience in community-based projects or working with small-scale farmers.
- Knowledge of seaweed farming techniques and climate resilience strategies.
- Strong communication skills to engage with diverse community groups.
- Ability to build relationships with local stakeholders and work within coastal communities.
- Passion for empowering women and youth in rural areas.
✅ Additional Requirements:
- Must be comfortable working with coastal communities and adhere to cultural norms, including appropriate dressing styles.
- Swimming ability is required, as visits to seaweed farms involve working in water.
- Enthusiasm for hands-on fieldwork and engaging with farmers.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word for documentation and reporting.
- A team player with the ability to collaborate with various community members and project staff.
