The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is a semi-autonomous entity under the Ministry of Works, established on July 1, 2000. It is responsible for managing the trunk and regional roads network across Tanzania Mainland and overseeing airport construction projects.
Job Opportunity: Resident Engineer at TANROADS
TANROADS, on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, has entered into a contract for the construction of the Simiyu Bridge (150 meters) and its approach road (3 km) to bitumen standard. The Regional Manager’s Office in Mwanza, acting on behalf of the Chief Executive, is seeking qualified and competent professionals to fill vacant positions on specified contract terms for this project.
Position: Resident Engineer (1 Post)
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Must be a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) and possess a valid practicing certificate.
- A postgraduate qualification in Civil Engineering will be an added advantage.
- At least 10 years of cumulative experience in road and bridge construction, including design, supervision, and contract management under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
- Proven experience serving as a Resident Engineer or in an equivalent capacity on at least three road construction projects of similar nature within the last decade.
- Strong proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the site team and oversee all technical and administrative functions on-site.
- Supervise the contractor and manage project work plans.
- Ensure quality control and compliance with contractual obligations.
- Prepare monthly progress reports and manage project documentation.
- Process contractor invoices and facilitate timely payments.
- Organize and attend site meetings while maintaining detailed meeting minutes.
- Monitor and implement Social and Environmental Impact mitigation measures in collaboration with the Environmental Specialist at TANROADS.
- Maintain updated records, including reports, work diaries, correspondence, instructions to contractors, test results, measurements, quantity calculations, and payment records.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager (PM).
