Job Purpose

NMB Bank is looking for a skilled and results-driven Relationship Manager to oversee the growth of both Assets and Liabilities (Deposits) in the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) sector. The ideal candidate will provide strategic guidance, support Relationship Officers in acquiring business customers, and contribute to the overall expansion of SMEs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the sales efforts for SME loans and deposits across the zone, covering branches, business centers, and hubs.
  • Review and assess SME credit applications that require senior management attention and provide well-informed recommendations.
  • Support Relationship Officers in growing asset portfolios and mobilizing deposits within the SME segment.
  • Collaborate with Relationship Officers and Branch Managers to develop financial structures that optimize risk management and maximize economic value.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Head of Department on SME banking growth and business development initiatives.
  • Offer continuous mentoring and capacity-building support to Relationship Officers to drive business expansion and maintain portfolio quality.
  • Oversee departmental budgets, ensuring sales targets are achieved within set timelines.
  • Develop financial projections and budgets for managed zones, including identifying prospective clients for loan products and other cross-selling opportunities.
  • Work closely with Relationship Officers and Branch Managers to convert potential business leads into successful transactions.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including credit, risk, and operations teams, to maintain the highest standards in SME portfolio management.
  • Regularly monitor and evaluate the business portfolio to ensure key performance indicators (such as PAR and NPL levels) remain within acceptable risk thresholds.
  • Represent NMB Bank in customer forums, ensuring strong relationships and providing excellent service to clients.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong credit analysis and financial assessment skills.
  • In-depth understanding of the Tanzania banking sector and SME markets.
  • Excellent customer relationship management and knowledge of loan products, policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications, including Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
  • Effective business management, leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Economics, or a related field.
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Business Banking or Relationship Management, with a minimum of 3 years managing SME clients.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in credit analysis.
