Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Pump Mechanic, you will be required to maintain and repair diesel and electrical pumps so to ensure smooth operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prioritizing safety by attending mandatory training sessions.
  • Performing mechanical maintenance and repairs efficiently so that to prevent further component damages
  • Following isolation procedures through conducting pre-start inspections to ensure you comply with safety standards.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving unplanned equipment issues.
  • Ensuring maximum equipment availability through proper maintenance practices.
  • Using work instructions and job sheets in determining required materials, tools and procedures.
  • Conducting preventive maintenance inspections and ensuring compliance.
  • Removing and replacing pump components as required by the Supervisor.
  • Providing timely feedback to the Pump Shop Supervisor about equipment conditions and availability.
  • Keeping stakeholders informed about equipment status and necessary repairs.
  • Participating in training programs that will enhance skills and career growth.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role you will be required to have the following  qualifications;

  • A Diesel Mechanics Trade Certificate, Full Technician’s Certificate or VETA Grade One.
  • Strong understanding of mining safety regulations and best practices.
  • Awareness of the Mines Health and Country Safety Act.
  • 2–3 years of working experience in a maintenance role working as a diesel mechanic.
  • Experience in open-cast mining is required
