The FORLAND project is a four-year bilateral initiative between the governments of Finland and Tanzania, running from 2025 to 2029. This collaborative project focuses on Forestry, Land Use, and Value Chain Development in the Iringa, Njombe, Ruvuma, and Lindi regions of Tanzania, which are known for their rich natural and plantation forest resources. The project’s headquarters are located at the Forest and Wood Industries Training Centre (FWITC) in Mafinga.

FORLAND helps local communities and small woodlot owners manage tree plantations and Miombo Village Land Forest Reserves using Community-Based Forest Management. It also strengthens the forestry value chain by helping micro, small, and medium enterprises add value to their products. The project builds on the successes of previous initiatives, such as the Participatory Plantation Forestry Programme (PFP 2) and the Forest and Value Chain Development Programme (FORVAC), ensuring the sustainability of its efforts. In addition, the project supports poverty alleviation, job creation, and climate resilience in line with both Tanzania’s and Finland’s development goals.
