International Media Support (IMS) is dedicated in promoting independent journalism, media freedom and journalist safety in countries facing conflict, political transitions, or authoritarian rule. It was brought up in 2001 through which have collaborated with local and international partners aiming at supporting media advocacy, freedom of expression and high quality journalism worldwide.

Join Our Team As a Programme Officer in Tanzania

We are currently looking for a Programme Officer to support International Media Support (IMS) work in Tanzania, therefore if you are passionate about media development, freedom of expression and impactful in journalism apply this position

 

POSITION: Programme Officer 

Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Job Type: Full-time

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Programme Management and Planning

  • Collecting and organizing data for analysis, project planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Contributing to the programme design and strategy development
  • Assisting in preparing funding proposals and budget reports
  • Monitoring project implementation and following the action plans

2. Partner Support and Coordination

  • Assisting in the drafting of partner contracts
  • Identifying partner training needs while facilitating capacity-building initiatives
  • Conducting regular partner visits while evaluating the progress
  • Organizing meetings, workshops and learning forums
  • Facilitating coalition building and information sharing among media partners

3. Reporting and Donor Relations

  • Supporting programme implementation basing on media guidelines
  • Assisting in drafting reports for donors and IMS management
  • Attending donor meetings by taking notes and coordinating follow ups

4. Communications and Representation

  • Developing content for International Media Support (IMS)  website including the social media platforms
  • Representing IMS at relevant meetings and events
  • Supporting the implementation of International Media Support (IMS) and visibility strategy
  • Participating in institutional learning and knowledge sharing activities

Qualifications and Experience

✔️ University degree in media studies, journalism, development studies or  related, Masters is preferred
✔️ At least three years of working experience in programme management, media development or communication
✔️ Fluency in both Swahili and English Language 
✔️ Experience working I  donor funded projects is added advantage
✔️ Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and data management
✔️ Strong understanding of media, journalism, governance and civil society in Tanzania

Job Details

📍 Job Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
📆 Employment Type: Full-time (12 months, with possible extension)
💰 Salary: Competitive salary based on experience and IMS policies
🗓️ Start Date: Starting on 1st April 2025 or as soon as possible
🚫 Work permit sponsorship is NOT available – Applicants must be eligible and able to work in Tanzania
