Established in 2016 and officially registered on July 6, 2017, AFO is dedicated to enhancing financial access, promoting community awareness about aquatic conservation, and advocating for sustainable, community-led economic development.

Job Summary

The Livelihood Field Officer plays a key role in implementing AFO’s livelihood initiatives, serving as a bridge between program management, field facilitators, and local communities. This role involves overseeing day-to-day program activities, supervising Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) facilitators, and ensuring effective communication between stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

A. Program Implementation & Coordination

  • Lead the execution of livelihood programs, particularly VSLA and seaweed farming initiatives.
  • Support and guide VSLA facilitators in implementing monthly plans and budgets, ensuring adherence to monitoring and evaluation guidelines.
  • Oversee the formation of VSLA groups, ensuring facilitators provide training using approved materials.
  • Monitor the progress of VSLA groups using Management Information Systems (MIS) and other tracking tools.
  • Organize and coordinate community events, including:
    • Meetings with village leaders.
    • Group training sessions.
    • Environmental awareness campaigns.
    • Community-led clean-up events and social initiatives.
  • Conduct regular field visits to evaluate the effectiveness of program facilitators and ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Work closely with facilitators to ensure proper record-keeping and that project milestones are met.
  • Provide feedback to the Livelihood Program Manager regarding program performance, challenges, and impact.
  • Lead monthly meetings with facilitators and conduct spot-checks to ensure adherence to program standards.

B. Facilitator Training & Development

  • Collaborate with the Livelihood Program Manager to develop high-quality training materials aligned with the VSLA curriculum.
  • Assess facilitators’ ability to deliver impactful training sessions to community groups.
  • Ensure all training programs meet quality standards and support the overall objectives of the initiative.

C. Reporting & Documentation

  • Submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to the Livelihood Program Manager.
  • Maintain thorough documentation of program activities, including:
    • Success stories.
    • Training records.
    • Facilitator performance evaluations.
  • Collect high-quality data and generate detailed reports, incorporating key achievements, challenges, and visual documentation.

D. Capacity Building & Community Engagement

  • Provide continuous training and mentorship to community groups on financial literacy, business management, and sustainable practices.
  • Conduct community education sessions on environmental conservation and sustainable seaweed farming.
  • Support community-led initiatives that promote social cohesion and economic empowerment.
  • Engage with local leaders, stakeholders, and partners to strengthen program impact and foster shared responsibility.

E. Additional Duties

  • Perform any other tasks assigned by the Livelihood Program Manager to support the success of AFO’s initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Background

  • Degree or Diploma in Community Development, Business Administration, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), community development, or livelihood programs.
  • Strong background in financial literacy, business management, and environmental conservation.
