Role Overview
This position is centered on advancing women’s engagement in climate action across key sectors such as agriculture, sustainable energy, and the green and blue economy. The selected candidate will gain hands-on experience in sustainable development, contributing to projects that empower women in agriculture, food systems, and renewable energy.
Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Implementation (40%)
- Support the execution of ongoing initiatives focusing on women’s economic empowerment in climate-sensitive sectors, including the green and blue economy and renewable energy.
- Contribute to the development of new Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) programs.
- Assist in building partnerships with UN agencies, government bodies, and civil society organizations to advance gender equality in climate action.
2. Policy Analysis & Research (20%)
- Conduct policy research to identify opportunities for strengthening UN Women’s climate and economic empowerment programs.
- Analyze trends in agriculture, renewable energy, and water resource management to inform gender-responsive policies.
3. Inter-Agency Coordination Support (20%)
- Assist in annual reporting related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).
- Participate in UNSDCF coordination meetings, particularly in the Planet and Prosperity Outcome Groups.
- Support inter-agency collaborations to align climate initiatives with Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and national climate strategies.
4. Advocacy & Knowledge Sharing (20%)
- Assist in advocacy campaigns and awareness programs under UN Women’s Joint Programmes.
- Gather and analyze best practices in climate action, women’s empowerment, and sustainability, contributing to knowledge-sharing networks.
- Participate in field monitoring visits and assist in report preparation.
- Contribute to research articles, newsletters, and UNV publications.
Volunteer Commitments
In addition to the core responsibilities, UN Volunteers are expected to:
- Promote volunteerism and local community engagement.
- Participate in UNV activities, such as International Volunteer Day celebrations.
- Support the UNV Buddy Programme for new volunteers.
- Encourage local organizations to leverage online volunteering platforms.

Age Requirement
- 18–29 years old at the time of application.
Nationality
- Open to Swedish nationals only.
Language Proficiency
- Fluency in Swedish (mandatory).
- Fluency in English (mandatory).

Required Education
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Gender Studies, Agriculture, Environment & Climate Change, Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, International Development, or related fields.
Required Experience
- No prior experience required, but interest in gender equality, climate action, and economic empowerment is preferred.
Desired Skills & Competencies
- Understanding of gender-sensitive climate policies, including the Paris Agreement and SDGs.
- Familiarity with climate-related sectors such as renewable energy, agriculture, and water resource management.
- Strong research and analytical skills to support policy development.
- Effective communication and report-writing abilities.
- Ability to contribute to program design, implementation, and evaluation.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Additional Information

Mandatory Pre-Deployment Training
- Selected candidates must attend a mandatory training in Sweden from 9–13 June 2025, organized by Sida.
Living & Working Conditions
- Location: Tanzania (Dar es Salaam).
- Climate: Tropical, with warm temperatures year-round.
- Facilities: The city has modern amenities, shopping centers, healthcare services, and international schools.
- Infrastructure: Some areas experience power and water supply issues; backup solutions are common.
- Security: Tanzania is generally safe, but standard precautions should be observed.
