Job Opportunity: Highway Engineer at TANROADS – March 2025
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is responsible for maintaining and developing the trunk and regional road networks across mainland Tanzania. Additionally, the agency oversees axle load control operations using weighbridge scales to ensure road safety and infrastructure sustainability.
TANROADS Coast, under the directive of the Chief Executive, is seeking qualified and experienced Tanzanians to join its team for two major projects:
- Upgrading of Utete – Nyamwage Road (33.7km) to Bitumen Standard
- Contract No: TRD/HQ/1036/2022/23
- Construction of Mramre Bridge (81m) and Approach Roads (3.0km) to Bitumen Standard
To support the successful implementation of these projects, TANROADS is recruiting for the following position:
Position: Highway Engineer (1 Post)
Job Responsibilities:
The Highway Engineer will be responsible for overseeing construction activities to ensure compliance with the contract specifications. Key duties include:
- Supervising road and bridge construction works to ensure quality standards are met.
- Ensuring adherence to engineering best practices and project timelines.
- Coordinating with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Reviewing and approving technical designs and reports.

Qualifications and Experience:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Highway Engineering (a postgraduate qualification in Highway Engineering is an added advantage).
- Professional Registration: Must be a registered Professional Civil Engineer.
- Experience:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in road design and construction.
- Must have worked on at least two (2) similar projects in the past seven years.
- At least three (3) years of experience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required.
Employment Terms:
- Contract Duration: One (1) year, specified contract.
