POSITION: High Voltage Electrician

Key Responsibilities
As a High Voltage Electrician, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Attending and actively participating in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Performing relay protection analysis using advanced test equipment.
- Conducting circuit continuity and loop impedance checks.
- Inspecting protection and ancillary equipment to ensure operational integrity.
- Measuring insulation resistance according to industry standards.
- Executing high-voltage switching operations.
- Performing self-tests and external communication checks on digital relays.
- Conducting detailed analysis of protection and metering transformers.
- Carrying out trip and alarm circuit functional tests to verify proper operation.
- Executing primary injection tests to validate relay stability for faults.
- Interpreting fault event and disturbance records post-relay operation.
- Conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) on various protection relays (GE, Siemens, ABB, SEL, Alstom, Schneider).
- Enhancing operational efficiency and implementing continuous improvements.
- Ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures for safe switching practices.
- Installing, repairing, and troubleshooting HV switchgear and protection relays.
- Carrying out transformer installations and maintenance.
- Performing insulation resistance and polarization index tests on MV/HV motors and generators.
- Inspecting tools, reporting findings, and completing tasks safely and efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a Trade Certificate with relevant experience.
- Proven expertise in HV/LV motors, transformers, and STATCOMs.
- Experience in HV/MV switching and control systems.
- Proficiency in HV/MV cable splicing and terminations.
- Strong understanding of high/low voltage systems and switchgear protection.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
- Hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, fault-finding, and troubleshooting.
- Exposure to power generation plants.
- High voltage switching certification.
- Knowledge of Tanzanian electrical regulations and Australian Electrical Standards.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, Pronto/SAP, and AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with HMI, PLC, and SCADA systems.
Preferred Skills & Competencies
- At least 3 years of experience in a high-voltage electrical role.
- A valid Tanzanian driving license.
- Awareness of Mines Health & Safety Act regulations.
- Experience in underground and surface mining environments.
- Ability to demonstrate Barrick’s core values consistently.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
