Job Opportunity: Head of Operations
Jubilee Life Insurance Corporation of Tanzania is seeking an experienced professional to take on the role of Head of Operations. This is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing and managing key operational functions to ensure efficiency, regulatory compliance, and exceptional client service.
Role Purpose
The Head of Operations will support the Chief Operating Officer (COO) by ensuring the smooth execution of operational activities within the company. This role will oversee claims (retail and group life), reinsurance, premium administration, underwriting, customer service, risk & compliance, pension, actuarial units, and other essential functions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Collaborate with the COO and stakeholders to implement operational strategies across claims, reinsurance, premium administration, and underwriting.
- Analyze market trends and industry dynamics to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies to manage policy coverage, claims frequency, and financial exposure.
- Enhance customer experience through automation, digitization, and a client-centric approach.
- Monitor industry trends to refine claims management and reinsurance practices.
Operational Management
- Oversee claims processing to ensure accurate and timely settlements while optimizing efficiency.
- Manage premium administration, including policy issuance, collection, and reconciliation.
- Lead the underwriting team to ensure accurate risk assessments.
- Ensure high service standards for policyholders and stakeholders.
- Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and compliance with ISO standards.
- Manage budgeting, planning, reporting, and auditing within the Operations function.
- Monitor operational performance and implement process improvements.
- Ensure timely processing and payment of benefits and claims as per agreed turnaround times (TAT).
- Track and monitor policy benefits payouts and commissions, providing recommendations on variances.
- Support business growth by maintaining service excellence and fostering client relationships.
- Ensure proper collection, processing, and allocation of premiums/contributions.
- Contribute to product development to meet evolving customer needs.
- Oversee disaster recovery and business continuity plans for Operations.
- Manage agreements with third-party service providers.
- Provide detailed monthly MIS reports on key operational functions.
- Drive continuous improvement in Life systems and recommend enhancements.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, proactively addressing their needs.
Corporate Governance & Compliance
- Stay updated on industry regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ensure full adherence to Tanzanian insurance laws and industry policies.
- Implement risk management strategies and internal controls to minimize operational and financial risks.
Leadership & Team Development
- Strengthen team capabilities and succession planning.
- Foster a culture of ethical practices, collaboration, and high performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance corporate culture.
- Provide transformational leadership to exceed stakeholder expectations.
- Set performance targets, monitor progress, and ensure timely execution of responsibilities.
- Conduct regular training sessions to keep the team informed about industry trends.
- Build departmental capacity to effectively execute the company’s strategic goals.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Master’s degree in a business-related field (preferred).
- Diploma in Insurance.
- 8–10 years of industry experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in strategic initiatives, process improvements, and risk management.
- Strong expertise in life and pensions products, policies, and regulations.
- Experience in leading and managing high-performance teams.
