Role: Advocacy and Government Liaison Specialist

Uwezo Tanzania is seeking a dedicated Advocacy and Government Liaison Specialist to strengthen our engagement with government entities and policymakers. This role will support national and sub-national advocacy efforts in alignment with our communication and advocacy strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute advocacy campaigns to influence policies, regulations, and government decisions.
  • Act as a liaison between Uwezo Tanzania and government agencies, policymakers, and elected officials.
  • Advocate for favorable policies by effectively communicating the organization’s positions.
  • Prepare briefing materials, fact sheets, and position papers for government stakeholders.
  • Represent Uwezo Tanzania at public meetings, government-led advocacy events, and policy discussions.
  • Create and distribute press releases, newsletters, and policy briefs for government officials.
  • Assist in securing permits and drafting MoUs for Uwezo’s projects.
  • Monitor and analyze legislative and policy changes related to education, health, nutrition, science, and technology.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with MPs, local councilors, and government departments.
  • Organize and disseminate policy briefs through workshops, newsletters, media, and social platforms.
  • Manage and update Uwezo Tanzania’s website and social media channels to enhance engagement.
  • Conduct research, prepare reports, and share insights with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR and other relevant regulations.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Mass Communication, or related Social Sciences.
Experience: Minimum of three years in government communications, advocacy, and policy engagement.
Language Skills: Excellent writing and communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
Media & Digital Proficiency: Strong knowledge of traditional and social media, along with emerging digital communication tools.
Project Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality work.
Design & Content Creation: Experience in developing advocacy materials for policy dissemination.
Child Protection & Safeguarding Awareness.
Development & Education Knowledge: Familiarity with education, health, and development issues in East Africa.
Technical Skills: Strong computer literacy, data management, and internet research abilities.
Teamwork & Adaptability: Ability to collaborate effectively, adapt to changes, and work under pressure.
