Our Mission in Tanzania
MdM has been active in Tanzania since 1992, focusing on HIV/AIDS programs and harm reduction services for people who use drugs. Over the years, our work has evolved to support local organizations and expand harm reduction programs across multiple regions.
Since 2022, we have also launched initiatives in sexual and reproductive health in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, with plans for further expansion. Additionally, MdM is providing technical support in Rwanda and leading a multi-year research project on Hepatitis C among injection drug users.
Now, we’re looking for a passionate General Coordinator (Head of Mission) to lead our operations in Tanzania.
Your Role & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Desk Manager, you will oversee the strategic and operational management of MdM’s programs in Tanzania. Your responsibilities include:
Leadership & Team Management
✔ Recruit, train, and manage the mission’s team, ensuring a strong and motivated workforce.
✔ Develop and execute operational strategies in collaboration with MdM’s leadership and partners.
✔ Provide ongoing technical support and guidance to staff.
Program & Strategy Development
✔ Define and implement advocacy strategies related to healthcare access, harm reduction, and reproductive health.
✔ Oversee project planning and execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
✔ Monitor program effectiveness and implement improvements when needed.
Partnerships & Representation
✔ Act as MdM’s representative in Tanzania, engaging with government authorities, donors, media, and local partners.
✔ Strengthen existing partnership agreements and identify new collaboration opportunities.
✔ Lead fundraising efforts to ensure the financial sustainability of MdM’s mission.
Security & Risk Management
✔ Develop and enforce safety protocols for staff and projects.
✔ Assess security risks and coordinate crisis response strategies.
Compliance & Reporting
✔ Ensure programs comply with MdM’s policies and international standards.
✔ Oversee budget management and ensure responsible financial planning.
✔ Prepare detailed reports for MdM leadership and donors.

Qualifications & Experience
✔ Education: Degree in project management, humanitarian aid, development, public health, or related fields (minimum 5 years post-secondary education).
✔ Experience: At least 3 years in a leadership role within the humanitarian sector (e.g., Area Coordinator, Country Director).
✔ Community Development: Experience working with local civil society organizations.
✔ Specialized Expertise (Preferred): Experience in harm reduction, sexual and reproductive health, or research projects.
✔ MdM Experience (Preferred): Previous experience with MdM is an asset.
Key Skills
✔ Strong leadership and team management skills.
✔ Ability to analyze complex health and social issues and design effective programs.
✔ Excellent advocacy, negotiation, and partnership-building abilities.
✔ Financial and budget management expertise.
✔ Strong public speaking and representation skills.

What We Offer
✔ Salary: €3,571/month (gross)
✔ Expatriation bonus: 10% of gross salary per month
✔ Annual bonus: Equivalent to one month’s salary (paid in two installments)
✔ Housing allowance: Up to $2,466/month
✔ Schooling allowance (for children aged 3 and above)
✔ Living allowance (per diem for dependents)
✔ Paid leave: 5 weeks per year + 22.5 recovery days
✔ Health insurance (50% covered by MdM)
