Job Opportunity: Fleet Costs Controller at Ker & Downey – February 2025

Position Overview

Ker & Downey Safaris (T) Limited is seeking a Fleet Costs Controller to join our team. This role focuses on cost and data analysis to improve fleet performance, reduce expenses, and enhance safety. The successful candidate will oversee the maintenance, operations, and cost management of a diverse fleet of over 100 vehicles, including trucks, cars, excavators, tractors, and graders.

Key Responsibilities

Fleet Performance & Cost Optimization

  • Analyze fleet operational data to identify trends, optimize routes, and enhance efficiency.
  • Control and minimize fleet-related costs, including fuel consumption and maintenance expenses.
  • Work closely with the Fleet & Logistics Manager to implement cost-saving initiatives.

Maintenance & Repair Oversight

  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all vehicles to ensure smooth operations.
  • Oversee repair and servicing, ensuring timely completion and high-quality work.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team to manage spare parts inventory and supplies.

Fleet Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure all vehicles comply with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Support the administration of vehicle documentation, including insurance, road licenses, and permits, in accordance with Tanzanian laws.
  • Work closely with fleet operators and logistics teams to address vehicle issues and optimize utilization.

Fleet Management & Reporting

  • Implement and maintain an efficient fleet management system for tracking and reporting.
  • Monitor and analyze fleet performance data to identify areas for improvement and cost savings.
  • Assist in the procurement of new vehicles and the disposal of old ones as required.

Qualifications & Experience

🎓 Education & Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Engineering, Fleet Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in cost control and fleet management.
  • Hands-on experience in data analysis, vehicle maintenance, and operational cost management.

🔧 Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of fleet management systems and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency in fleet tracking software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in East Africa or Tanzania is an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English (knowledge of Swahili is a plus).
