We are currently looking to hire a Driver for a five-year USDA project that focuses on enhancing and transforming the small and medium-sized poultry value chain in Tanzania. This initiative aims to promote sustainable commercial growth in the poultry sector, incorporating climate-smart technologies, improving animal health management, and strengthening agricultural finance services. The project will be implemented across the regions of Mbeya, Iringa, Songwe, and Rukwa, with the position based in Mbeya.

Job Summary

As a Driver, you will be responsible for operating vehicles and transporting cargo or passengers as needed. You must maintain a safe driving record and comply with all national and local driving laws, regulations, and safety standards. The role requires following established routes or using navigation tools such as maps and GPS, while also ensuring vehicle upkeep and cleanliness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive vehicles safely as directed and perform basic maintenance to prolong the vehicle’s service life.
  • Track and manage vehicle maintenance records, ensuring service schedules are met and notifying the employer when the vehicle requires servicing.
  • Deliver parcels, letters, and other necessary items to offices and businesses, including during safaris when required.
  • Drive long distances with or without staff as necessary, adhering to all rules and regulations.
  • Follow required procedures in case of an accident, in line with legal and organizational protocols.
  • Keep vehicles clean and in proper working condition, ensuring all documentation (e.g., insurance, road license) is up to date.
  • Maintain vehicle security at all times.
  • Perform routine checks on oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires to ensure vehicle readiness.
  • Stay updated on road conditions and route accessibility, utilizing current traffic reports and other available information.
  • Conduct minor repairs when necessary and maintain an inventory of spare parts.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports on vehicle operations, maintenance, expenses, and mileage.

Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of Form IV education.
  • A valid Class C driving license.
  • Advanced Driver’s Certificate, Grade Two, from the National Institute of Transport or an accredited institution.
  • At least three years of driving experience.
  • Previous experience working with an international NGO (INGO) is preferred.
  • A clean driving record with no major accidents in the past two years.
  • Proficiency in Swahili and basic knowledge of English.
