Job Overview
Lutheran World Relief is looking for a Database/GIS Specialist to support a five-year USDA-funded project aimed at transforming small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Tanzania’s poultry value chain into sustainable commercial businesses.
The project will operate in Mbeya, Iringa, Songwe, and Rukwa regions, focusing on:
✅ Strengthening the animal feed sector
✅ Improving livestock health management
✅ Enhancing agricultural finance services
✅ Supporting extension and service providers
The Database/GIS Specialist will be based in Mbeya, Tanzania, reporting to the MEL Lead.
Key Responsibilities
✔ Data Collection & Management
- Ensure timely and accurate real-time data collection, verification, and reporting.
- Develop and manage data collection tools, ensuring compliance with security and privacy standards.
- Maintain and update project databases, enabling seamless reporting and analysis.
✔ Data Analysis & Visualization
- Analyze data and create reports to support data-driven decision-making.
- Utilize tools like PowerBI, ArcGIS, STATA, SPSS, and R for statistical analysis and data visualization.
- Identify trends and insights to enhance program effectiveness.
✔ Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Support
- Develop monitoring frameworks and evaluation plans aligned with project goals.
- Support training initiatives for staff and partners on data collection, reporting, and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with Corus’ Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) policy.
✔ Technical Support & Capacity Building
- Provide training on data management software and mobile data collection tools.
- Assist in troubleshooting data-related issues and improving overall system efficiency.
- Support project teams in using ICT solutions for enhanced monitoring and reporting.
✔ Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare internal and external reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Ensure proper documentation of best practices, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Work closely with the Chief of Party and Deputy Chief of Party to provide data insights.

Required Qualifications & Experience
✅ Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
✅ Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in data analysis, management, and reporting, preferably in agriculture or livestock projects.
- Proven track record of working with NGOs, donor-funded projects, and local communities.
- Experience in designing and implementing MEL activities in international development programs.
- Hands-on experience with data analysis tools (SPSS, STATA, NVivo, GIS, PowerBI, ODK software).
✅ Skills & Competencies:
- Strong ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English and Swahili.
- Experience working in multicultural teams across different locations.

✅ Preferred:
- Knowledge of Tanzania’s agricultural and poultry sector.
- Experience managing service providers and ensuring quality deliverables.
- Familiarity with GIS mapping and data visualization techniques.
Work Conditions & Travel
- This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) based in Mbeya, Tanzania.
- The role requires regular travel to different project sites.
- Candidates must be willing to work outside standard office hours as needed.
- The position may involve exposure to high-security risk areas and basic living conditions.
