We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Manager to join our data team at the Mwanza Interventional Trials Unit (MITU). In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Data Manager and other team members to ensure effective data management and support the implementation of MITU’s research projects.

Position: Data Manager
Key Responsibilities
✔ Data Management & Compliance
- Oversee day-to-day data management of assigned studies while ensuring adherence to Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain and update databases to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
- Design, validate, and manage clinical trial databases based on study-specific requirements.
✔ Data Entry & Quality Control
- Enter questionnaire, laboratory, and study data into the appropriate database.
- Perform data cleaning, validation, and verification to ensure accuracy.
- Update study databases and resolve queries in a timely and efficient manner.
✔ Technology & Device Management
- Ensure electronic devices (tablets, smartphones) used for data collection are properly handled, charged, and stored.
- Support the implementation of electronic data capture (EDC) systems such as OpenClinica, OpenDataKit (ODK), and RedCap.
✔ Reporting & Collaboration
- Provide regular reports to the Senior Data Manager on progress and upcoming tasks.
- Work closely with study teams to develop and implement data management plans.
- Assist in training field teams on data entry protocols and system usage.
✔ Other Duties
- Support data analysis using software such as STATA or R.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Essential Requirements
✅ Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, IT, ICT, or a related field.
✅ Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel & Access.
✅ Proficiency in programming and database management.
✅ Experience working with data management systems such as OpenClinica, ODK, or RedCap.
✅ Experience in health research or clinical data management.
✅ Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
✅ Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
✅ Willingness to travel as required.
✅ Proficiency in statistical analysis tools such as STATA or R.
Desirable Qualifications
✔ Postgraduate training in clinical research data management.
✔ Experience in data entry, cleaning, and validation.
✔ Hands-on experience with electronic data capture (EDC) systems.
✔ Familiarity with mobile application development/programming.
✔ Strong interest in building a long-term career in data management.
