Program Overview
Supported by the Gates Foundation, this initiative aims to assist 3-4 African governments in leveraging data science and modeling to enhance soil health strategies and investment planning. Working closely with Ministries of Agriculture, research institutions, and the private sector, the project will focus on improving soil nutrition, crop production, and farmer income to align with Africa’s 10-year Soil Health Roadmap.
About the Role
As the Tanzania Country Lead (Consultant), you will drive stakeholder engagement, manage partnerships, and oversee project implementation to ensure the success of the Soil Nutrition Roadmap initiative in Tanzania.
This role requires a strategic thinker, a strong communicator, and a hands-on leader who can navigate complex stakeholder environments, analyze data, and turn insights into actionable strategies.
📍 Location: Dodoma, Tanzania
🛂 Eligibility: Must have legal authorization to live and work in Tanzania
⏳ Contract Duration: Initial 6 months, with potential extension up to 2 years
💰 Consulting Rate: $30–$35 per hour (based on experience and location)
Key Responsibilities
1. Stakeholder Relationship Management (30%)
- Build and maintain relationships with government ministries (Ministry of Agriculture), NGOs, academic institutions, and private sector partners.
- Coordinate meetings, workshops, and strategic discussions to ensure strong engagement in the project.
- Ensure project outputs align with Tanzania’s national priorities and policies.
- Provide insights on political and cultural contexts that could impact project success.
2. Project Implementation & Management (40%)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for in-country project execution.
- Lead assessments to gather relevant data and define country-specific priorities.
- Support the Program Manager in writing reports, preparing presentations, and tracking project activities.
- Oversee logistics, scheduling, and administrative coordination to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain a project engagement tracker, providing updates on activities and outcomes.
3. Data Analysis & Strategy (30%)
- Coordinate and oversee data collection activities to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Collaborate with Data Scientists to source, review, and analyze critical datasets.
- Use data visualization techniques to communicate insights effectively.
- Contribute to ongoing project evaluations to measure impact and refine strategies.

Qualifications & Experience
✔️ Education:
- Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, development aid, data for international development, or related fields.
✔️ Experience:
- 6+ years in project management, technology development, or data-driven international development.
- Experience working with governments and NGOs is highly desirable.
- Background in agriculture, fertilizer, or agronomy is a strong advantage.
✔️ Skills & Competencies:
- Project implementation & stakeholder management expertise.
- Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a global team.
- Familiarity with policy, data, and technology-driven solutions.
