Job Purpose
As a Communication Officer, you will play a key role in executing WFP’s communications strategy. Your responsibilities will include media relations, social media management, content creation, branding, and event coordination to enhance WFP’s visibility and support fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Media & Public Relations
- Implement WFP’s communications strategy to strengthen its reputation and support fundraising initiatives.
- Organize visibility events such as handover ceremonies, agreement signings, and project launches in collaboration with donors, government agencies, and development partners (e.g., launching the School Health & Nutrition Project or the Cost of Hunger in Africa (COHA) report).
- Write and refine press releases, speeches, and key messages for various stakeholders.
- Develop high-quality content (text, photos, videos, and audio) for use across online and offline platforms.
- Coordinate with local and international media outlets (print, TV, radio, and digital media) to enhance WFP’s brand recognition.
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists and media professionals to expand WFP’s reach.
Content Creation & Social Media Management
- Develop engaging social media content for WFP Tanzania’s Twitter and other digital platforms.
- Collect and produce photo and video content to create compelling human-interest stories that highlight WFP’s impact.
- Oversee the production of video, photo, and radio materials, ensuring high-quality outputs.
- Create and distribute newsletters, fact sheets, and briefs to keep stakeholders informed about WFP’s initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze traditional and social media trends to optimize communication strategies.
Branding & Capacity Building
- Implement corporate branding guidelines to maintain consistency in WFP’s visual identity across all platforms.
- Train and support WFP staff on effective communication practices to ensure professionalism and alignment with WFP’s messaging.
- Provide guidance on best practices for media engagement, social media strategies, and content production.
Emergency Communication Support
- Assist in crisis communication efforts, ensuring timely dissemination of critical information.
- Support WFP’s emergency response by quickly mobilizing media coverage and content production.

Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or International Relations (or a related field).
Experience:
- Minimum 1-3 years of professional experience in a communications-related role.
- Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong writing and storytelling skills in English, with experience in press releases, speeches, and social media content.
- Ability to plan and execute visibility events effectively.
- Experience in media engagement and liaising with journalists.
- Knowledge of digital marketing and social media management.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with Tanzania’s political, social, and economic landscape.
Languages:
- Fluency in English (Level C) is required.
- Proficiency in Kiswahili (reading, writing, speaking, and translation) is required.
Additional Skills (Preferred but Not Mandatory):
- Videography & content creation.
- Graphic design skills.
