Business Execution Lead – Citi Bank Tanzania (March 2025)
About the Role
Citi Bank is looking for a Business Execution Lead to join its team in Tanzania. This role is a key leadership position within the Middle East and Africa (MEA) cluster, which is part of Citi’s global operations. Tanzania is one of the core franchises in the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) sub-cluster, making this an exciting opportunity to drive growth and strategic initiatives in the region.
The Business Execution Lead will report directly to the SSA Business Execution (BE) Head and have a matrix reporting line to the Tanzania Country Chief Officer (CCO) and Banking Head.
Job Purpose
As part of the MEA Banking and International Business Execution team, you will be responsible for executing key business strategies, enabling client growth, managing legal entity governance, enhancing the control environment, and driving transformation initiatives.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can support the CCO and Banking Head in aligning business objectives with Citi’s global goals while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Focus & Business Growth
- Lead strategic, client-focused initiatives to drive business growth.
- Collaborate with the CCO, Banking Head, and country leadership team to identify and execute key business initiatives, including People & Talent, Client Experience, and other strategic programs.
- Ensure the smooth execution of country and legal entity initiatives, tracking progress and reporting to relevant stakeholders.
2. Legal Entity Management
- Support the CCO and Banking Head in running an efficient Legal Entity governance model, including overseeing the Tanzania Board.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, regulatory requirements, and Citi’s internal policies.
- Monitor business performance using key metrics and drive accountability across the franchise.
- Strengthen connectivity between the Legal Entity governance and MEA cluster governance, ensuring timely escalation of critical issues.
- Oversee regulatory matters, ensuring all regulatory changes, engagements, and advocacy efforts have clear ownership and accountability.
- Manage business reviews, annual planning, and expense control processes.
- Drive the successful implementation of key transformation programs.
3. Risk & Controls
- Promote a culture of proactive risk management and accountability within the franchise.
- Ensure the Legal Entity governance model effectively covers all risk categories (both financial and non-financial risks) in alignment with Citi’s standards.
- Utilize the Manager’s Control Assessment (MCA) framework to enhance the control environment and identify potential risks.
- Implement Issue Management best practices to identify, track, and resolve issues efficiently.
- Oversee the management of operational risk controls, including third-party risk and data governance.
- Ensure strong compliance risk management, including adherence to Anti-Money Laundering (AML), sanctions policies, and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversee financial risk management, including Citi’s Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) on behalf of the CCO and Banking Head.
- Coordinate audit processes and independent reviews in collaboration with Citi’s Independent Compliance Risk Management (ICRM) team.

Who We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in the financial services industry, preferably in business management, risk management, consulting, or program execution.
- Prior experience in Citi is an advantage.
- A graduate or postgraduate degree in Business Administration or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of risk management, corporate governance, and financial regulations.
- Experience in leading governance models is a plus.
- Exceptional candidates with slightly less experience may still be considered.
