We are looking for a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager to join our team. This role is responsible for driving the growth of loans, advances, deposits, and alternative banking products at branch level. The successful candidate will oversee sales activities, support and train branch sales officers, and ensure continuous business development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Customer Acquisition & Business Development
- Identify and recruit new customers while maintaining strong relationships with existing ones.
- Conduct frequent visits to existing customers to understand their banking needs and offer tailored solutions.
- Ensure all customer acquisition points are fully functional and delivering an exceptional customer experience.
- Identify business opportunities in local markets and recommend relevant products.
- Perform KYC (Know Your Customer) and risk assessments for potential clients before onboarding.
- Work with the Business Development Partner to develop localized banking products.
- Provide continuous feedback to the Head of Customer Network regarding product and service performance.
- Collaborate with Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) and Business Banking (BB) teams to maximize retail opportunities.
- Address and resolve customer queries related to banking products and services.
2. Deposit Mobilization
- Analyze local market trends to develop strategies for deposit growth.
- Supervise and drive deposit mobilization campaigns at branch level.
- Proactively solicit deposits from clients to meet branch and bank-wide targets.
- Execute and monitor activities identified in the branch’s business growth calendar.
3. Cross-Selling & Market Intelligence
- Promote and cross-sell all NBC products, including:
- Mobile Banking, Internet Banking, and Agent Banking
- Deposit and Loan Products
- Foreign Exchange (FX) and Transfer Services
- Insurance Products
- Gather and report market intelligence on competition, product offerings, and service levels.
4. Relationship Management & Customer Engagement
- Plan and execute customer engagement activities within assigned branches.
- Build strong relationships with potential and existing customers through personalized interactions and product presentations.
- Enhance customer loyalty by listening to their needs and offering customized solutions.
- Participate in corporate customer events and manage all interactions between the bank and its clients.
- Maintain and monitor customer accounts to ensure continued activity and prevent churn.
5. Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain a database of high-net-worth customers for targeted business growth.
- Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to branch business growth.
- Oversee loan processing turnaround times and provide recovery support for overdue loans.
- Monitor branch-level retail loans and ensure compliance with Portfolio at Risk (PAR) and Non-Performing Loans (NPL) targets.
- Collaborate with the Stressed Asset Management Unit to develop and implement recovery strategies.
6. Coaching & Team Development
- Train and mentor branch sales teams on business development best practices.
- Monitor team performance against agreed KPIs and provide feedback for improvement.
7. Budgeting & Administrative Duties
- Participate in branch budgeting for all sales-related activities.
- Prepare business proposals and reports for management approval.
- Handle any other responsibilities as assigned by the Branch Manager.

Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of banking experience in sales, business development, or relationship management.
- Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of banking products, services, and regulations.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
- Strong sales and cross-selling abilities.
- Ability to analyze business opportunities and market trends.
- Good knowledge of Bank of Tanzania (BOT) regulations and risk management.
- Strong people management and coaching skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and banking software.
