Introduction:

Mkombozi Commercial Bank PLC (MKCB) is a leading commercial bank in Tanzania, established in 2009. It offers comprehensive banking solutions tailored for growing businesses, medium-sized and large corporations, institutional investors, financial institutions, and government entities. A significant milestone was achieved in 2014 when MKCB was listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE).

MKCB is currently seeking to appoint two (2) distinguished and dynamic non-executive Board Members with expertise in banking. Their knowledge and experience will play a crucial role in supporting the bank’s growth and strategic direction. The shortlisted candidates will be presented for voting at the Annual General Meeting.

The Role:

Key Responsibilities: The appointed Board Members will be instrumental in guiding the bank’s long-term success. Their primary responsibilities include:

  • Defining and upholding the bank’s vision, mission, and values while overseeing strategy execution for sustainable growth.
  • Selecting, appointing, evaluating, and providing oversight for Senior Management in policy, strategy, and operations.
  • Appointing the Managing Director, regularly reviewing their performance, and offering strategic guidance.
  • Establishing sound financial management practices, approving annual budgets, and monitoring financial performance.
  • Representing the interests of shareholders and key stakeholders.
  • Staying informed on the bank’s operations, actively participating in board meetings, and contributing to strategic planning.
  • Ensuring adequate policies and procedures are in place to safeguard the bank’s assets and reputation.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance best practices.
  • Overseeing risk management strategies and enhancing shareholder value by addressing potential risks.
  • Ensuring the bank’s technological infrastructure supports efficient and effective operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

Ideal candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience at the director or senior management level, preferably in financial services, with at least five (5) years in the banking sector.
  • Expertise in business management, accounting, finance, marketing, actuarial science, economics, ICT, fintech, engineering, human resources, or related fields.
  • A clean credit record and a strong reputation for integrity and ethical conduct.
  • A proven leadership, management, and governance background within public or private banking institutions.
  • Age range: between forty (40) and sixty-five (65) years.
  • A postgraduate qualification in a business-related field and/or professional certification in accounting (CPA(T) or ACCA) is an added advantage.
  • Prior board leadership experience within a publicly listed company is highly desirable.
  • A well-networked professional with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships that benefit the bank.
