Project Overview
Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) is seeking qualified Tanzanian candidates for the position of Research Assistant under the Strengthening Post-Crash Care in Tanzania (SPRINT) Project. This project, funded by the World Health Organization (WHO) Research Grant, is managed by the Department of Emergency Medicine at MUHAS.
The SPRINT Project aims to enhance post-crash care for Road Traffic Injury (RTI) victims by strengthening the capacity of first responders and hospitals. The initiative will implement and assess the impact of six key components from WHO’s Emergency Care Toolkit in both pre-hospital and hospital settings along Tanzania’s A7 highway—a major route connecting the northern and southern regions.
By improving emergency care systems, this project seeks to:
✔ Reduce preventable deaths and long-term disabilities caused by RTIs.
✔ Improve patient outcomes through enhanced trauma response.
✔ Support the development of a national trauma registry for data-driven healthcare improvements.
Position: Research Assistants (8 Posts)
We are hiring eight (8) Research Assistants to support the implementation of this critical project. The selected candidates will be stationed in district hospitals across Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, and Pwani regions.
This role offers a valuable opportunity for individuals interested in clinical research and emergency medicine, providing hands-on experience in a professional research setting. The Research Assistants will collaborate closely with the Study Coordinator, Specialist Trainers, Study Site Investigators, and Research Clinicians.
Key Responsibilities
✔ Conduct medical data collection and perform key measurements.
✔ Assist research staff with project-related activities.
✔ Identify appropriate locations for conducting interviews.
✔ Recruit participants and conduct both qualitative and quantitative interviews.
✔ Compile and analyze research data, preparing detailed reports on findings.
✔ Maintain accurate and confidential records of all interviews and research activities.
✔ Perform additional tasks as assigned by project supervisors.
Required Skills & Experience
✔ Strong organizational and data management skills.
✔ Ability to multitask and work under strict deadlines.
✔ High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential data.
✔ Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Spreadsheets).
✔ Minimum 1 year of experience in qualitative and quantitative research.
✔ Hands-on experience in data collection, interviews, and health research.
✔ Experience in translating and transcribing audio recordings and coding qualitative data.
✔ Ability to work effectively with community stakeholders, patient groups, and healthcare workers.

Qualifications
✔ Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, or Medical Laboratory Science.
✔ Completed internship and registration with a recognized professional board.
