Brief History of UDSM

Established on 25th October 1961 as University College Dar es Salaam (UCD), an affiliate of the University of London.
Initially hosted at Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) premises on Lumumba Street, Dar es Salaam, before moving to its current location in 1964.
Began with only one faculty (Faculty of Law) and 13 students, including one female student, Julie Manning.
In 1963, became a constituent college of the University of East Africa, alongside Makerere University College (Uganda) and Nairobi University College (Kenya).
Attained full university status on 1st July 1970 under Act No. 12 of 1970.
Launched Vision 2061, a strategic roadmap for future growth and development.
