Exciting Job Opportunities at Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS)

The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is a semi-autonomous entity under the Ministry of Works, established on July 1, 2000. It is responsible for managing the trunk and regional road networks across mainland Tanzania, as well as overseeing airport construction projects.

Currently, TANROADS, on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, has initiated a contract for the construction of Simiyu Bridge (150M) along with a 3KM approach road upgraded to bitumen standards. To support this project, the Regional Manager’s Office in Mwanza, acting on behalf of the Chief Executive, is seeking to recruit skilled and qualified individuals for the following positions:

1. Resident Engineer (1 Position)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) as a Professional Engineer and hold a valid practicing certificate.
  • A postgraduate qualification in Civil Engineering is an added advantage.
  • A minimum of 10 years of cumulative experience in road and bridge construction, including design, supervision, and contract management under FIDIC Conditions of Contract.
  • Must have served as a Resident Engineer or held an equivalent role in at least three similar road construction projects within the last decade.
  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the site team and oversee all technical and administrative tasks.
  • Supervise the contractor and ensure adherence to project plans.
  • Monitor quality control, contract compliance, and progress reports.
  • Process contractor invoices and facilitate timely payments.
  • Organize and attend site meetings, preparing comprehensive meeting minutes.
  • Ensure social and environmental impact mitigation measures are implemented in coordination with TANROADS’ Environmental Specialist.
  • Maintain accurate records, including reports, work diaries, correspondences, test results, and financial documents.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Project Manager (PM).

2. Topographic Surveyor (1 Position)

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or an equivalent field from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered as a professional Land Surveyor by the National Council of Professional Surveyors (NCPS).
  • Postgraduate qualifications in surveying will be an added advantage.
  • At least five years of experience in surveying, particularly in road and bridge design or construction.
  • Fluency in both Swahili and English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, and reports related to survey work.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations.
  • Identify and position all beacons and benchmarks for the contractor to reference during construction.
  • Conduct or supervise surveys to establish property boundaries.
  • Document survey results, including the location, shape, contours, and dimensions of surveyed areas.
  • Collaborate with engineers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Calibrate surveying instruments and develop methodologies for effective survey execution.

Contract Duration:

The contract for these positions is eight (8) months.
