Basing on Tanzanian Government, Bagamoyo Sugar Limited greenfield project and part of the Bakhresa Group. Bagamoyo Sugar was established on December 1, 2016. The company is focused on cultivating sugar cane on its nucleus estate and producing sugar at Makurunge in Bagamoyo District.
The project aims not only to reduce Tanzania’s reliance on sugar imports and achieve self-sufficiency but also to produce surplus sugar for export. This is the first large-scale sugar project of its kind in Tanzania.

The sugar processing plant is supplied by Thyssenkrupp India Pvt Ltd, a German company based in India. Meanwhile, the farm benefits from advanced irrigation technology provided by Netafim, an Israeli firm specializing in digital farming solutions.
Implementation is progressing according to plan, with commercial production expected to begin by mid-2022. During phase one, the project is estimated to produce approximately 30,000 tonnes of sugar.
